Political Career of Syed Ahmed Mehmood
Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood is a politician who has held various positions in the government of Pakistan. He served as the 43rd Governor of Punjab from December 2012 to June 2013, during the presidency of Asif Ali Zardari and the premiership of Raja Parvez Ashraf. Mehmood succeeded Latif Khosa and was later succeeded by Mohammad Sarwar.
Prior to his governorship, Mehmood served as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, representing NA-195, from 1990 to 1993, 1993 to 1996, and 1997 to 1999. He also served as a member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab from 1988 to 1990 and from 2008 to 2012. During his first stint as a member of the Provincial Assembly, Mehmood served as the Punjab Excise & Taxation Minister.
Mehmood also served as the District Chairman of Rahim Yar Khan from 2001 to 2005 and as the President of the Punjab Chapter of the Pakistan Muslim League-F from 2008 to 2012. He was a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-F from 2005 to 2012, the Pakistan Muslim League-Q from 2001 to 2005, and the Pakistan Muslim League-N from 1988 to 2001.
